We Are a Thread in the Tapestry of Life

"Creation is the logical result of the outpush of Life into self-expression.  It is the coming forth of Spirit into manifestation.  The One encompasses and flows through All, spilling Itself into numberless forms, and personalities.  These forms and personalities, propelled by the Cosmic Urge which brings them into being, have, within themselves, an impulse planted by the Divine; and since the Divine is Limitless and Perfect, It must and ultimately will bring all creation into a state of perfect manifestation." Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind
Ernest Holmes  wrote these words long before physicists, biologists,  and others discussed that there is consciousness back of everything -- including space itself. The indigenous people around the world have had a clear understanding of our relationship to our environment.

Chief Seattle is credited with saying:
"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect."
This consciousness of unity is vastly different from the accepted ideas of the day (mid 1800's.) According to the Bible man was given dominion over all life. Most Christians assumed that being given dominion over the world and all its creatures meant that humans owned the land and could do whatever they wanted to it without any consequences. There were consequences and we are now learning to see life differently. When we know better we will do better.

When we see all other beings as a reflection of and connected to ourselves, our thoughts, feelings and actions reflect a respect for life including our own. This consciousness of oneness, leads to making better choices. When we make better choices, we become a blessing to ourselves and each other.
