A New Way to Honor Myself

This is Black Friday. While many of you have been shopping since early morning, I am doing something completely different this year. I am sitting in the comfort of my home, barely out of my pajamas, enjoying a relaxing cup of tea and writing my thoughts.

Because I am co-facilitating the Financial Peace University course with Rev. Pattie, I decided to truly set and stay on a budget this holiday season.  To help me do that, I have asked my friends, our board members and staff not to give me gifts this year because I often feel pressured internally to buy and have often over-spent and I invariably feel guilty if I have not had an equal exchange of energy. (I am quite aware, that this is co-dependence at its finest, and a more spiritually mature person would simply receive with grace without batting an eye.) I asked each one to help me stay on my budget by not giving me a gift!

However, I know myself and that is always the beginning of spiritual growth -- to honestly tell yourself the truth.

While I was asking the board members not to give me anything, a brilliant idea came to mind. In lieu of giving gifts to friends, family, board and staff, I would set a certain amount and give it to a couple of worthy causes such as South County Outreach and Heifer International, which is a non-profit dedicated to ending hunger and poverty through sustainable means. South County Outreach is asking for items of clothing like socks and underwear.

I love both of these organizations. Heifer International because it is based on helping people learn how to be more self-sufficient by learning how to look after the chickens, goats or water buffalo that they have received so they can live more independently. South County outreach because I will be making  a difference right here in Orange County.

The Board of Trustees thought this was a great idea so they are joining me in this project. I will collect money for Heifer International until the end of December then however much we have collected, I will share it with Heifer International for them to use it where it is needed the most.

For South County outreach, I will collect until December 14, then go and purchase the clothing that is most needed.

I feel greatly inspired. I will stick to my budget. I will feel great about the money I am spending because it will be going to great causes. I have not moved from my computer! Easiest holiday gift-buying ever!

I am going to open it up to members of our congregation who would love to help too. It is a way to honor myself AND make a difference in the world. Be the one who makes a difference!

On Gratitude...Happy Thanksgiving Everyday!

On Gratitude...

“ To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven. ”
-Johannes A Gaertner

So here we are in the month of Thanksgiving… Yes, literally Thanksgiving day is November 24th...this week! So how did this happen so quickly?! We are well within the last hundred days of the year… As I count those days down with those in my Empowerment group that are removing from their proverbial plates that which has not served them this year (at least... Other than, knowing that which they do not desire in their lives )…as we...together Make room for New Beginnings … For miracles in 2017!

Hold that thought. Ask yourself… Is it not the time to practice Thanksgiving and Gratitude all throughout the year… And not simply at the time of Thanksgiving holiday? Of course, it is...for it is Gratitude that shifts our focus from what we may feel our life lacks to the abundance that is already present. Giving thanks makes us happier, healthier, and more resilient… As it strengthens our relationships ....as it enhances and contributes positively to every area of our life!

One of the most profound ways to express gratitude is through generosity of Spirit. The act of giving to others. The size of the gift is really unimportant. Rather, it is the act of giving, particularly when it is a gift of the Spirit… enabling others to be grateful for your generosity. The act of gratitude… to give pure of your heart and to give abundantly… Provides for us to be even more grateful in every area of our lives.

Today.… I invite YOU to count your blessings… Noticing simple pleasures, as well as, acknowledging everything that you have received.... That you continue to receive. And… As you do this, I trust and believe that you will become aware of… On a continuous basis… Of how much you have been given! Of this….I AM certain!

BE The Source within YOU....Now!
Once again…Always remember, what YOU do and who YOU are…..MATTERS!
May your Thanksgiving be filled with Love, Laughter, remembrances of good times...and new good times in the making, as well as Happy appetites! Happy Thanksgiving!

With Love & Blessings!

The Power of Community, Sunday Service

Radiant wholeness is my true state. I believe that it is my birthright to be well and to feel great...and that I am created with exquisite perfection. My uniqueness is a gift created by God to express Itself as me. And So It Is!

Abide With Me

The first line of a hymn from my childhood is in my heart and mind.
"Abide With me; fast falls the eventide;
  the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me."  Henry F. Lyte

I know that it may sound old-fashioned, but I also feel the wisdom and power in the words.  It is really the spiritual solution to absolutely every kind of darkness, every problem, every concern. It is asking the Lord (the Law and the Love)  to stay with us.

The word abide means to stay, or remain, or even tarry.

The song was inspired by scripture, Luke 24:29. It was after Jesus resurrection and the disciples were begging Jesus to stay with them.

Knowing that the Christ consciousness is the consciousness of oneness, of infinite possibilities, peace, comfort and hope, we begin to understand why this old hymn was so popular at funerals in mid 20th century. When we feel abandoned or left behind, passed over or grief-stricken, we need God's help. The answer is always to turn to God. When we do, the presence embraces us and gives of Itself - peace, comfort, love.

Today I am grieving the passing of our dear friend Rev. Michael DiFebo. I know with absolute certainty that Rev. Michael lives on and lives better where he is now. And I also know that for his friends and family, hope, comfort and peace are desperately needed. None of us were ready to let him go.He was a vibrant, loving, gregarious bigger-than-life man of faith. I know that Rev. Michael is now fully abiding in God. I know the answer for all of us left behind, the answer is to ask God to "stay with us."

You are probably wondering why I would phrase it that way. God does not have to be coaxed to stay with us. God cannot abandon us, for It is in us, responding to us, whether or not we believe in God. However, the simple act of asking for God's help opens the floodgates of love, peace and comfort (that were there all along.) It opens our receptiveness to God's love.

So the key is to keep God, Divine Mind, eternal Loving-Kindness,foremost  in our minds and hearts. Then the "helpless' become the "helped."

I am reminded of singing in the junior choir in the United Church (of Canada) in my childhood home of Conquest, Saskatchewan. Of course I was a school girl then. I didn't understand death because I didn't understand the nature of life. But now those lyrics are deeply meaningful to me. I know I am uplifted when I turn to God and abide in God's love.
Below is an instrumental version by James Last.

On Gentleness...

Thought 4 Today...Thought 4 LIFE!

On Gentleness...

"There is nothing stronger in the world than gentleness." -Han Suyin

On a recent visit back East to see my family, I have spent most of the time with my precious grandson, baby James. Through our adventures and escapades, I found myself asking him to, "BE Gentle!" Yes,  "Be gentle"  With your toys, with Harry (the dog), with going up and down the stairs...  And, especially, with Siti (that would be me...grandma in Arabic).
Regardless of age, gender...Yes, even boys can be gentle...Political persuasion, food groups of choice, or favorite football team, the art of  BEing gentle knows no limits! Although the body and the mind may  sometimes feel inclined to not be gentle...  To shout, rather then see the strength in silence... our Spiritual Power...our Authentic Power from within need not flex any muscle to demonstrate even the greatest strength.

As  I practice gentleness with baby James, encouraging him to do the same with himself, with me, with others, I AM provided with an even deeper respect for the wonder and goodness, as well as the temporariness of all our relationships. Especially, this time with baby James, I fully realize The present.  That whatever particular moment we happen to be experiencing together will never be repeated in just the same way again. That realization ... That declaration moves me into an even more gentle Presence  A Sacredness! Of this  I AM certain!

Gentleness...  That tender touch, those kind words and gestures, a true soft-spokenness... All indicating a Consciousness  of being present and caring! That is what our planet needs in order that each and everyone of us may feel and exude the love and power within us...  Encouraging the love and power of others ...that we collectively may live as, first and foremost, the Spiritual Beings that we are.

Today...  I invite YOU to practice BEing more gentle in all that you do...  In all who you are!
For it is then that you may truly know the blessing that you are ... And all the blessings that surround you!

BE The Source within YOU...Now!

Once again…Always remember, what YOU do and who YOU are…..MATTERS!

Yes…for me…I no longer need to know exactly where I AM going.  For me…All I need to Know is that I AM On My Way!

With Love & Blessings!

Prayer for My Country by Ernest Holmes

MY PRAYER FOR MY COUNTRY
by
Dr. Ernest Holmes, 1887 – 1960

Believing in the Divine destiny of the United States of America and in the preservation of liberty, security, and self-expression, I offer this, my prayer for my country:

I know that Divine Intelligence governs the destiny of the United States of America, directing the thought and the activity of all who guide its affairs.

I know that success, prosperity, and happiness are the gifts of freedom, and are the Divine heritage of everyone in this country.

I know that success, prosperity, and happiness are now operating in the affairs of every individual in this country.

I know that Divine guidance enlightens the collective mind of the people of this country, causing it to know that economic security may come to all without the loss of either personal freedom or individual self-expression.

I know that no one can believe or be led to believe that freedom must be surrendered in order to insure economic security for all.

The All-Knowing Mind of God contains the answer to every problem which confronts this country.

I know that every leader in this country is now directed to this All-Knowing Mind and has the knowledge of a complete solution to every problem, and each is compelled to act upon this knowledge to the end that abundance, security, and peace shall come to all.

And I know that this spiritual democracy shall endure, guaranteeing to everyone in this country personal liberty, happiness, and self-expression.

And so it is. Amen.

Wholeness, Sunday Service

I embrace myself as perfect and whole in every way. I see wholeness everywhere I look. And So It Is!
