The Secret of Permanent Prospertity

Like most human beings, I am both fascinated and terrified by fire. I love to sit in front of a fire pit watching the flames dance, warmed by the heat. On the other hand if those flames start spitting sparks, I will quickly move away. I do not want to get burned. Last spring, I attended a ministers only retreat at Valley Ridge Alabama led by the awesome Rev. Edwene Gaines. Part of the retreat was the opportunity to walk on fire. Edwene is a Master Firewalker, has been certified as a trainer for many years. At first I wasn't even remotely interested. I thought smugly to myself, "Those fools can get burned if they want to! But I'm too smart to do something so foolish." However, after three days of praying and remembering my spiritual nature, I too decided to walk. I walked three times. It was the most exhilarating experience of my life! And to think, I just about missed it because i was afraid.
Walking on Fire
When we got back to the program room from walking on fire, Edwene had us write on an index card, "I walk on fire, I can do anything I choose!"

That affirmation helps me in every area of my life including prosperity.

This Sunday, Rev. Edwene Gaines will be our guest speaker. He talk title is The Secret to Permanent Prosperity. I don't know exactly what she will talk about, but I can guess that she will challenge us to look false fears in the face and know that we are powerful spiritual beings, living in a spiritual universe governed by spiritual laws. She will likely talk about the Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: tithing, goal setting, purpose and forgiveness.

For many people lack and limitation are normal states of consciousness. They have a belief that there is never enough. When invited to practice the first law of prosperity -- tithing, fear comes up. There is a belief that if they  give away 10% of their income, there won't be enough left to meet their commitments. From a human point of view  it appears true. But just like the fire walking experience worked because I listened to spiritual guidance, tithing works because I am saying that "God is my Source."

Is it time for you to face your fears and walk on the fire that scares you? If you are in the area, come to the Center Sunday morning. Edwene is our guest speaker. Then plan to stay for her workshop. She guarantees that her workshop will transform your life ...if you are teachable.

Who told You It Is Impossible

One of my favorite quotes is from Alice in Wonderland:
Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said: 'one can't believe impossible things.'
'I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.'

If you are to find your Personal Legend, or purpose, you may need to do some things that seem impossible.

Think back to the things you have learned and are now easy to you -- riding a bicycle or driving a stick shift. When I learned to drive a stick, I needed all my concentration to remember when to shift, how to accelerate without stalling and how to accelerate from a stop on a hill with the car  behind me only inches away. I could not play the radio. I could not talk to passengers. It seemed impossible to me. Yet, it somehow became second nature. However, I could see that other people could drive cars with standard transmissions so i knew it could be done. Actually that is a great metaphysical principle: If someone has achieved what I desire, then I know it is possible for me to achieve it too.

But there are things that at one time everyone in our culture believed could not be done. Think about the vision of the Wright brothers! They imagined that humans could fly and it had never been done before. Yet, today we get on planes, trusting that they will be flown safely to our destination. What was once impossible, first became possible, then became fact.

In the book, The Alchemist, many people told the Boy that it was impossible to get to the pyramids. Yet, despite much discouragement, such as having all his money stolen not once but a couple of times, the Boy was able to fulfill his Personal Legend. Something was compelling him to follow the omens he saw.

I would say that he was following his intuition. What compelled him was his Calling or the Universe moving through him as his personal adventure story.

There is so much we can learn from the Boy. He did not give up. He kept remembering the words of both the gypsy woman and the king of Salem whose name was Melchizedek. By the way, author Paulo Coelho chose the king's name purposefully. In Hebrews, Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything then the king blessed him. In The Alchemist, the king of  Salem gave the Boy advice and the meaning of his dream, and the Boy gave him a tenth of his flock.Giving this much away seems impossible if the Boy was going to get to Egypt from Spain, but he did the impossible and the story ends in his favor.

What do you think about the practice of tithing? That is giving a tenth to the source of your spiritual good. It has worked for me for years.

What To Do When You Are Filled With Gratitude

After class on Tuesday night I was filled with gratitude, joy and awe and stepped out into the parking lot to view this full moon peeking behind the scattered clouds. It was so beautiful, I just wanted to take it in, to experience its magnificence. I was filled with gratitude and I wanted to share it. My Teaching Assistant, Kathy Storey,. saw me standing in front of our building to see what I was doing. She rolled down her window and howled. We all show our appreciation in different ways.

The truth is that we simply can not take, take, take, even something like beauty. The Law of Life calls us to give back.

In this moment take a deep breath in and hold it. Hold it for as long as you can. The oxygen that is renewing your vitality is vital to your health yet nature will not allow you to just take in. You also are required to exhale, to give back.

There is a law of circulation, that if followed, assists you in living a full, creative, prosperous life. If not followed, you will become stagnant and start to die.

The exact law is a law of returning ten percent to the source of your spiritual well-being. It is the law of tithing. What tithing helps us remember is that we are more than our bodies or our big brains, we are spiritual beings, living in a spiritual universe governed by spiritual laws. the Law of Circulation is one of those laws. We return the money to the place or places of our spiritual inspiration. We soon learn that ninety percent of our income goes further than the hundred percent used to.

Not only are we required to give back a portion of our financial good, but also we are required to also tithe our time and talent. Tithing our time means the time you invest in your spiritual growth. Tithing your talent means giving your service. This giving can be to a friend, a neighbor and institution. It can range from making a pot of coffee for a group to welcoming people to your spiritual home.

I have been committed to the full practice of tithing for over 25 years. My life is full because of it. I live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, I love the work I do, I have many friends and I have enough money to do what i want to do when I want to do it. Life is good.

Where do you circulate your good?
