The Season for Nonviolence Week 1: Self-Care Brings Compassion

I do yoga for fitness, mental, spiritual and physical. Most often I take a power yoga class to get my blood flowing, but after my busy weekend I was called to take a slower paced yin yoga class. It felt good to listen to my heart and my body. The yin class ended up being the perfect restoration for my body and my soul. It reminded me that we just entered the Season for Nonviolence and what a perfect way to begin by caring for myself.

The Season for Nonviolence, sponsored by the Association for Global New Thought, is an educational, media and grassroots awareness campaign spanning the 64 days between the January 30th and April 4th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The purpose of the Season for Nonviolence is to focus educational and public attention on the philosophy of attaining peace through nonviolent action, as demonstrated by legendary leaders including Gandhi, King, Cesar E. Chavez, Nelson Mandela, and His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

These great leaders represent people and faiths that span beyond borders and doctrine, limited only by the willingness of the individual.

The organizers of this beautiful season offer suggestions for embodying the ideas of peace, compassion and kindness in daily life. In this first week, organizers suggest focusing on being more compassionate to ourselves. Here are some of their suggestions:

  • Do what's in your heart. Really listen to what is in your heart and take action.
  • Smiling is a way to establish a heart connection and a peaceful outlook. Smile and make eye contact with 5 people.
  • Focus on the good qualities in yourself and others
  • Think of ways you can better care for yourself. Put it into practice.
  • Believe that peace is a possibility. Offer a prayer or focus on peace in meditation.
  • Think of ways to free yourself from drama. Turn off the news or refrain from complaining.
  • War is born from ignorance. Try to learn something new.

Or...maybe you just take a slower pace, stopping to smell the roses. Whatever you choose, I know it honors the Season for Nonviolence and spreads peace like wildflowers.

Today is Global Oneness Day!

After reading September Warren's blog yesterday, I was inspired to visit the website for Global Oneness Day - and now I am counting the minutes until the 8:15 conference time!

I have a very busy day today, so I won't be able to see everything (it runs until 7pm tonight). Not that every topic would be of interest to me... but they have a great line up of speakers!

As my schedule permits, I will click the link provided when I registered, and stream some of today's most inspiring New Thought leaders right to my phone or laptop. Did I mention that its free??? (There is an option to purchase MP3 files of the conference, but we'll see how it goes.)

You can still participate!

Beyond today's event, there are other things you can do to get involved. If you're interested, I encourage you click here to visit their website to learn more. The shift is happening. :-)

Global Oneness Day 2013

And The World Will Live As One.

Global Oneness Day is Thursday, October 24, 2013.

community-imageSince the late 1960′s, when pioneering astronauts captured the first photographs of Earth from space, there has been a growing realization that everything and everyone on our beautiful blue planet are deeply connected. A realization that we are One.
And yet, the popular perspectives and dominant institutions in our society are still primarily based on a mentality of separation. The focus on “us” separate from “them”, or “me” separate from “other”, while appropriate in context, is the root cause of so many of the escalating challenges we now face. Thus, if we want to bring about a sustainable global society, nothing is more important than changing this outdated way of thinking.

Global Oneness Day was created to recognize and celebrate the fundamental interconnection of all people and all of life. It is an opportunity to join thousands of participants in the exploration not only of the idea of Oneness, but ways in which this thinking can and is being applied “on the ground” so that our global society and culture increasingly reflect it.

When we, as individuals and groups, begin to awaken to an understanding of the world as One, our fundamental motives begin to shift. We start to see the possibility of a higher ideal – for success, health, prosperity, and purpose – not just for ourselves, but for all of humanity, and indeed all of life.
Global Oneness Day brings together dozens of passionate speakers whose commitment and insight into Oneness have inspired millions. But as inspiring and important as these conversations are, Global Oneness Day is not only about the sharing of ideas and insights. It offers an opportunity for thousands of us who care deeply about our world to be together in solidarity and experience a shared consciousness as One.
